Enhancing EU Antitrust Enforcement through Digital Trust: The Role of the European Trade Indexes Registry (EUTIR)
This document, prepared by the DigitalTrade4.EU consortium in August 2025, provides strategic input to the European Commission on the modernization of EU antitrust procedural rules. It advocates for the integration of the European Trade Indexes Registry (EUTIR)’a decentralised, interoperable digital infrastructure’into the EU’s competition enforcement framework. EUTIR enhances trust, traceability, and efficiency in cross-border trade by enabling secure verification of trade-related data through globally recognised identifiers like LEI/vLEI and blockchain-based technologies such as EBSI. The proposal aligns with the EU’s digital and green transition goals, supporting faster, more resilient antitrust procedures while reducing administrative burdens and fostering a harmonised, AI-ready single market.
